How should I use driver size when comparing speakers?
Driver size is the diameter of the woofer cone, usually listed in inches. A larger driver can move more air and generally reaches lower bass frequencies, though cabinet design and driver quality matter just as much. Use driver size as a starting point, then cross-reference power handling and speaker type to get a fuller picture.
What power handling number should I match to my AV receiver?
The power handling figure here is the continuous RMS rating in watts, which is what manufacturers publish and what matters for safe, long-term operation. A common guideline is to choose a speaker rated for at least the output wattage of your receiver per channel, with some headroom above. Running a receiver well below a speaker's maximum rating is fine and often preferable to the reverse.
